Default Java, Flash, Opera, etc.

Hello Everyone,

I am a newbie, and I do mean newbie to forums.

I just got my Centro and I am so in love with it. I think it is one of the best phones that I have ever had, and believe me, thanks to Sprints Retention Department I have had my share of their phones.

Okay, this is what I NEED HELP with: Will someone talk to me like a child and tell me EXACTLY - STEP BY STEP how to put, install, enable, etc. Java, Flash Player, Opera and whatever else I need to watch movies, video's online like CNN or Fox News, etc.

I have been trying to do this with my husband's ppc6800 and when I try to install flash player, as an example, it says I need the current version of internet explorer, and I try to install internet explorer it says I need to enable Java and it just continues in a circle - you cannot have one without the other, or so it seems, but I cannot get any of them - if I cannot get any of them. Hope this makes sense.

Like I said, this has been going on for a couple of months, now I have the Centro and I have read and heard people discuss some of the same problems that I have been having with the ppc6800.

Thank you for any help, I really appreciate your time.

well here is the trick.
you cant watch flash files, like .flv, the kind used on every online flash site there is. NOT YET ANYWAYS.
hopefully it will change soon.

If you have centro then you have kinoma player. you can watch 3gp files on that. that is the converted video format for mobile devices.

As for java and opera, I will be honest, it is free and all you do is download and install java, then download and install operamini. MY main concern and I have a centro is, Opera locks up and resets my centro frequently. I have since deleted it, but kept java because with the java, you can play other java games on your phone :D

to get java there is another program. as of january 12th, palm lost the rights to distibute java. so you would need to search to find it. or email me at [EMAIL REMOVED] and i will reply with the java program as an attatchment.

Hope this helps,
~Mike

EDIT: email removed and file link given. just extract and put the .prc on your phone and run program

Luckily there are mobile versions of websites like youtube which do not use flv files but instead MP4 files which the Centro can play.

You can get to there by typing http://m.youtube.com
There is also a mobile version of flickr that is at http://m.flickr.com

I to have been wondering about installing Operamini and have ben having a really hard time trying to figure out how to get java installed. I have the program, I just have no clue how to install it. It comes as a zip file which I can't see to unzip with the Centro. I downloaded handpalmzipper or whatever it's called and that didn't show the file at all. Couldn't figure out how to use it. Even when I put the zip file on my flash card it didn't show up. So I to would really appreciate a step-by-step play of how to install it including links to software needed and how to use that software to install it.

Thanks
BTW great to find a website dedicated to the Centro only.
