i'm getting a centro but i can't install palm desktop on my laptop. my laptop is owned by my work, but my centro is for personal use.

is there something else i can use? i don't have another computer.

do i need palm desktop to install programs? i've had a blackberry for awhile but the data plan is twice as much as the palm data plan so i'm switching.

There are alternatives to the Palm desktop, but they depend on your service provider. You can install applications over the network, but you may be limited to applications offered by your service at the the price set by your service. Your service provider may offer online backup, also.

If you have an older Palm device and you want to migrate your files from it to your Centro, you absolutely need the Palm desktop software. It makes the process completely painless. You might want to consider getting a cheap $300 netbook just for this purpose.

Check with the technical support people at your place of employment. Your may get permission to set up a personal account on your laptop.

I use pinstall to install applications without palm desktop but i had to copy some files from a computer that has palm desktop installed and put them in the "C:\WINDOWS\system32" folder. This is the link with the instructions to what I did, the instructions are for the Palm File Browser but it works for PINSTALL, just skip steps 1 and 17
