Default Battery Life Solution?

I think I have found a solution to the battery life problem everyone seems to be experiencing with their Centro. A rep at the Sprint store told me to go the Palm site and download the Versamail software upgrade. Evidently, this corrects a problem with Versamail in which it continues to operate in the background even though you think you're disconnected. Follow the directions to download directly to your phone, not your computer. I did it a couple of days ago and have noticed a definite improvement. It's worth a try.

Here's the link. http://www.palm.com/us/support/downl...m4updater.html and it appears to work - thank goodness!

Question

I was wondering when you purchased your phone and how long after did you experience the problem?

I found a thread about this subject dated Nov. 2007. The message indicated Sprint knew about the problem and corrected it. I purchased mine in Jan and did not have a problem until just this week!?!

I'm a little nervous about doing the update...

Hello. I was wondering if you tried the software update? And did it work?

Hi - I purchased my phone mid January and had problems right away. This fixed it. I'm running Bluetooth now, too and it's still ok.

Sorry if I'm bringing back a "dead thread", but I had gotten my Centro last week and noticed it was draining the battery like crazy! I was lucky to go a day in a half - two days before having to charge it.

After spending like HOURS online looking around, trying to find the cause of it, I found out that it's not Versamail that's causing the problem of the battery being dead; it's the Sprint Mobile Mail (Is that what it's called? I forgot). Apparently, the Sprint Mail application will keep your phone connected to the internet and keep pushing new emails through, and even vibrate when new ones come in. I've looked around the application and didn't find any way to not have it do that. So I've gotten rid of the application.

After I removed it, I let my phone just run dead again before charging it up over night. About either 5am or 7am (I forgot which, I was still sleeping when I did this) and I unplugged it. It's about 1:39pm now, and my battery is at 90%. That's been a HUGE improvement over what it was before.

And with Versamail, you should be able to turn off the Auto-Sync feature that it has. I have mine turned off, and just check my email about 2-3 times a day on my own. Also, turning off the internet connection when you're not using it (Pref>Network>Disconnect) will help keep the battery life better.

Hope this helps. (^-^)

Eh,

Well,

The last time my battery drained, I was talking quite more than usual. I mainly text during the day, and battery lasts quite the while. 90% right now, with auto-sync. I deleted versamail first day I got it, only use sprint email.

It also fixes Gmail. It works like a champ now.

I tried the update but when I tried to "verify the installation" the Build 77 was not displayed to indicate that the update installed correctly. I have tried to install it several times and I get the same results...any suggestions?
