I'm hoping that there is a 800w in the mix. If so I may pass on the sprint touch. If it comes out in November they will have my money, but if not the Touch will be my choice. I can't handle the super small key board of the Centro. Plus I need to have something for my big hands. And from the rumors of the Touch; I'm interested in it's capabilities. We'll see I guess.

I agree with you. If the 800w has the 750 form factor then I am sold. However if the 800w has this little high school teen form factor (Centro) then I am GONE. I have been a loyal Palm customer since the Treo 600 but I would not hesitate to change to the Mogul if I am left high and dry.

Default Centro and Global Address Book

The Centro keyboard is small and not as easy to use as the Treo 755p. Again, there is a size difference between the two. Palm is positioning the Centro as a "small, lightweight" smartphone and in some ways the "anti-Treo". The target market for this phone is someone considering and/or coming from a 12 key phone. For these folks, the keyboard and software integration is superior to any standard cellphone. I suppose Palm's thinking is that Centro might appeal to them, where the Treo did not.

I expect to have a review unit shortly and I'm interested myself in how the unit fares in the real world. I've only spent 20 minutes or so -- most of which was typing away and analyzing the hardware changes. My initial reactions are such, but they may/may not change after a few weeks with the device.

Do you know if the Centro has access to a company's Global Address Book? As a corporate user, that would be the deal maker/breaker for me. I've heard rumors that the Centro does not access the GAB.

Hi:

Doesn't that have more to do with the way the server is set up and with what program you are using to do mail? Are you using Exchange? What program do you use to do email, Versamail , Chattermail, Snapper, etc? Do you know what program the Centro uses?

I will say that recently I have discovered that Versamail does not access the Corporate address book. Perhaps that is what you are seeing/hearing. I have been using BizConnect (Sprint) for more than two years to handle all the mail functions and I have been happy, with access to all and really no problems.

Well, of course that means Sprint has to now discontinue support for their BizConnect program and we were forced to go to Versamail. That is why it took me over two years to discover this.

IT is investigating, but I think you have to have GoodLink or ActiveSync or something that allows access to the Corporate address book.

I hope to have some information later on this.

Steve,

I have a Treo 650 and am using Goodlink. I think my company also has access to ActiveSync. Will I be able to use Goodlink on the Centro? I've really come to rely on access to all corporate email addresses and phone numbers.

Thanks for checking into this,

CYNACL

Hi CYNACL:

Looks like the Centro includes Versamail. You should probably contact Motorola as the Centro is not listed as a supported device, but it is probably too new to expect to see it yet.

My guess would be that if the 650 and 755p is supported by Goodlink, which they are, then the Centro should be also:

Remember that what seems logical is not always so.

Good luck and let us know what you do.
